Virginia Smith Cox, 88, formerly of Ramseur, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020 at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. She was born on April 15, 1932 in Asheboro.
Private Graveside Services, Sunday, June 28, 2020, at Pleasant Ridge Christian Church Cemetery, Ramseur.

Virginia worked in the furniture and textile industry for many years and attended Ramseur Wesleyan Church. She was a wonderful cook and was known throughout Ramseur for her delicious pound cakes. Virginia was married to her husband, Merritt for 53 years. She grew up eighth of fourteen children. Virginia enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merritt Cox, parents, William "Oscar" and Primmie Browder Smith, brothers, Paul, Raymond, Roger, and Harold, sisters, Elizabeth Gearren, Betty Parks, Opal Kirkman, Mabel Burrows, and Myrtle Craven.
Survivors: daughter, Teresa Cox Teague, of Ramseur, sons, Randy Dean Cox and wife, Tammy, Howard Ray Cox and wife, Sandra, both of Asheboro, sisters, Barbara Davis, of Seagrove, Doris Vunncannon, Faye York, both of Asheboro, brother, John "Bud" Smith, of Asheboro, grandchildren, Joshua Teague, of Virginia Beach, VA., Traci Teague Gilliam and husband, Matt, of Asheboro, Sarah Cox, of Asheboro, great-grandchildren, Mikala, Isabella, and Tyler Teague, of Virginia Beach, VA., Alexa, Alison, and Orion Gilliam, of Asheboro.

The body will lie in state from noon to 5 PM on Saturday at Loflin Funeral Home.
