The Reverend Dr. Earnest R. Watkins

The Reverend Dr. Earnest Roosevelt Watkins, 71, of Staley, died Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at his residence.

No services will be held in honor of his wishes.

Earnest was born and raised in West Virginia and most recently lived in Staley, NC. He had a passion for advancing his education and received his Master's in Psychology from West Virginia University, his Doctorate in Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, and later achieved his Master's in Divinity from United Theological Seminary. Earnest spent twenty-one years as a minister with the West Virginia United Methodist Conference, having served in Wheeling, Charleston and Morgantown, WV, McHenry, MD, Stokesdale, NC, and retiring from St. Luke UMC in Asheboro, NC. Outside of education and ministry, he enjoyed reading and spending time at the coast. Earnest was preceded in death by his mother, Novella Carter Watkins, and brother, Terrance Keith Watkins.

Survivors: wife, Kim White Watkins, of the home, daughter, Erica Barrett (David), and their children, Colton, Caden and Willow, all of Lillington, son, Evan Watkins (Tiffany), and their children, Peyton and Nate, all of Burlington, step-daughter, Courtney Kidner, and her son, Jayden, of Charleston, WV, father, Earnest Peyton Watkins, of Charlotte, sister, Iris Watkins, of Pickerington, OH, brother, Peyton Cottrell Watkins (June), of Mint Hill, niece, Shaina Watkins, of Alexandria, VA, and nephew, Maalik Watkins, of Elizabeth, NJ.
