Ronnie, the son of the late Rufus and Vivian Brown Horrell was born on August 18, 1950 in Roseboro, NC. After the death of his father at an early age, he moved with his mother to Randolph County and attended Grays Chapel High School where he was in the last graduating class, the class of 1968. While attending Grays Chapel High School, he met the love of his life, Vivian Dare Routh, and they were married in 1970. Ronnie attended Randolph Community College and worked for Amp Inc. in Greensboro for nearly thirty-three years. Ronnie had a love for the outdoors and spent the majority of his "non-working" hours fishing, hunting or riding one of the several tractors he owned. He often planted enough of a garden to feed most of Melanchton where he lived and where he was the self-proclaimed "Mayor". He loved singing in church services and was known in the area for his rendition of "Oh Holy Night" during the holiday season. Ronnie was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church and was also a member of Hanks Masonic Lodge #128 AF & AM in Franklinville, NC, where he served as Master in 2013.
