John Robert Maples went home to be with His Lord and Savior on January 4, 2024, after a long, valiant battle with cancer.
John was born to Robert and Katherine Maples on September 12, 1955. Robert and Katherine lived in Randolph County where John and his siblings made many lifelong loving friends who John saw as family. The family were members of Ramseur First Baptist Church. John graduated from Eastern Randolph High School and went on to Sandhills Community College where he furthered his love and passion for music and was a first violinist in the orchestra. You never saw John without his guitar unless he was at work where he retired after serving in the Postal Service for over 40 years. John always had a smile on his face and a kind word to share with you.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving father, John married his soul mate, Teresa. Teresa and John were best friends and her care for John through his long cancer battle showed their love for each other and their faith in Christ. They resided in Wilmington, North Carolina where both served the Lord and their church, Global River Church. John’s and Theresa’s love for serving Jesus was and is always top priority. Through John’s gift of song and music, he served as Praise and Worship Member in his church. He wrote and recorded Worship songs just recently. He also led a Young Men’s worship group at Global River Church, often teaching them Worship songs on guitar. John loved working in his garden, golfing, circling the marsh in his Jon Boat, and helping others whenever needed. He shared his unwavering faith in God, with those who surrounded him.
John joins his parents, Robert Cary Maples and Katherine Loizon Maples in Heaven. He is survived by his loving and faithful wife, Teresa: his sisters, Kathy Maples Pell, and Mary Maples Owen (Gordon); his brothers Rob Maples (Lyn) and Jim Maples (Becky); children, Lara Maples and Brooke Maples; his stepson Christopher Link (Amanda) and step-grandsons Parker and Alexander; and, his nieces and nephews Megan Maples, Bobby Maples (Samantha), and Brant Maples.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on January 21, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Global River Church in Wilmington, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Global River Church, 4702 College Road, Wilmington, North Carolina 28412.
