James Oliver Byrd, Sr., 75, of Asheboro, died Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Woodland Hill Care & Rehabilitation in Asheboro.
Memorial Services, 3 PM, Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Ramseur Wesleyan Church, Ramseur with military honors provided by the U. S. Army.
Officiating, Rev. Jason Baker, John Gunter.
Burial, Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 148 Drum St., Asheboro.
James was a native of Robeson County and a resident of Asheboro. He was a retired veteran with over twenty years of service in the United States Army – serving in Vietnam, Korea, Italy, Germany, and various duties within the United States. His interest in being outside, fishing, woodworking, and working in his garden were his favorite hobbies. Spending time with his family and serving his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, at Ramseur Wesleyan Church gave him the greatest joy. James was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia A. Byrd, his parents, William and Pauline Barnes Byrd, brothers, Steve Byrd, William Bennett Byrd, Jr., uncle, Curtis Barnes, and daughter, Teresa Bates.
Survivors: wife, Gladys Byrd, of the home, daughters, Angelia St. Germain, husband, Brandon, Jennifer Gillelan, husband, James F. II, Alice Pawlik, husband, Rob, sons, James O. Byrd, Jr., wife, Lea, Johnny King, wife, Patty, grandchildren, Christopher, Cayla, James O. III, Mara, Alexis, Katie, Helen, Stephaine, James F. III, Michael, Noah, Luke, great-grandson, Evan.
