Gurney Wayne Moore, 70, of Asheboro, died Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral Services, 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel, Ramseur.

Officiating, Rev. Gary Mason.

Burial, Smyrna Grove Community Baptist Church Cemetery, Asheboro.

Gurney was a native of Randolph County, a police officer since 1971 and retired as the Ramseur Chief of Police in 1992.  He was a reserve police officer from retirement until February, 2020. Gurney was a 1967 graduate of Asheboro High School, a graduate of the Police Academy in 1971, and held an Associates Degree from Randolph Community Technical College. He also had law enforcement education with the N.C. Justice Academy, criminal investigation, instructor training, jail operations training, basic, intermediate and advance law enforcement certificates. Gurney was an avid rebuilder of tractors and enjoyed traveling the world with his best friends, Mickey and Pete. He was loving, honorable, funny, kind, and a giving man which loved his family and enjoyed keeping in touch with all of his loved ones and friends at all times. Gurney loved talking to people, making friends and never met a stranger.  There was never a topic of discussion that Gurney didn't understand and have knowledge of.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha T. Moore, parents, Edgar and Etta Mae Allred Moore, son, Brad Thomas, and brother, J. T. Moore.

Survivors: daughter, Michelle Miller and husband, Bill, of St. Augustine, FL, son, Scottie Thomas and wife, Beverly, of Asheboro, brother, Charles Moore, of Asheboro, grandchildren, Joshua Thomas, Kristin Thomas, Brittany Casey, Zack Boneham, Amanda Miller.

Visitation, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, Loflin Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ramseur.
