Calvin Amos Rogers, Jr., 64, of Ramseur, died Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Randolph Health in Asheboro.
On March 22, 2023, at the age to 64, Calvin A. Rogers, Jr. suddenly laid down his working tools and was admitted into that House, not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
Calvin was born and raised in Wake County, North Carolina, the son of Calvin A. Rogers, Sr., and Doris Patton Rogers. Calvin attended Wake County Schools and was a graduate of Garner High School in Garner, North Carolina. At the time of his death, Calvin was the owner of Deans and Associates/Blue Lodge Aprons where he was a supplier of Masonic aprons and other needs to Masonic Lodges and Grand Lodges, and their appendant bodies, across America. In the months before his death, Calvin moved from Raleigh to Ramseur, North Carolina to be closer to family.
Calvin enjoyed golf, fishing and spending time with his friends, family and especially his grandchildren. To Calvin, there were no strangers, only friends he hadn’t met yet. Calvin loved to cook. He entered and won various barbeque contests. As with everything he did in life, his love for cooking was not to garner awards or accolades, but because he enjoyed the fellowship with other cooks and the happiness in others who had the great fortune to enjoy his food.
For over 42 years, Calvin was an active Freemason. Calvin served as the Master of Masters Lodge No. 754 in 1985 and 2008, Millbrook Lodge No. 97 in 2022 and Orphans Lodge No. 761 in 2022. He was a long-time secretary of William T. Bain Lodge No. 231 for almost a decade. Calvin was a Noble of Amran Shriners in Raleigh and an officer in both the Scottish Rite Valley of Raleigh and the York Rite Bodies of Raleigh. In 2019, Calvin received the Rank and Decoration of Knight Commander Court of Honors from the Scottish Rite Orient of North Carolina.
In 2021, Calvin served as the Grand Tyler for the Grand Lodge of North Carolina. That year at the Grand Lodge Annual Communication Calvin received the Joseph Montfort Medal for his service to Freemasonry. The Montfort Medal is the highest award that is bestowed to Mason by the Grand Lodge for their distinguished service and achievement.
At the time of his death, Calvin was a sitting Grand Line Officer in the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons. At their 2023 Grand York Annual Communication, Calvin was awarded the Royal Arch Medal for Meritorious Service from the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons as well as the Simmons Jones Baker Award for Meritorious Service from the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of North Carolina.
Understanding the high calling to serve our widows and orphans, Calvin was an ardent supporter of the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford and WhiteStone Retirement Community. Calvin continually supported and participated in fundraising efforts for these charities.
Calvin is preceded in death by his father, Calvin A. Rogers, Sr. and his brother, Frank Rogers. Calvin is survived by his wife of 30 years, Allison Wicker Rogers of Ramseur, his mother, Doris P. Rogers of Greensboro, his daughter, Laura Rogers Souther and her husband Lee of Ramseur, along with his granddaughter, Hannah Gilchrist and his grandson Fore Souther, both of Ramseur.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, March 26, 2023, from 1:30 PM to 2:45 PM at Loflin Funeral Home in Ramseur, 147 Coleridge Road, Ramseur, North Carolina.
