Laven Cox Obituary

Laven Clint Cox, 88, of Seagrove, died Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

Funeral Services, 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel, Ramseur.

Officiating, Rev. Gerald Ward, Rev. Nathan Kiser, Rev. Brian Faircloth.

Burial, Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.

Laven was a native of Randolph County and a cattle farmer.  He was a member of United Church of Christ in Asheboro and attended Cornerstone Church in Seagrove where he was an usher and deacon. Laven was one of seven children born to Vertis and Virtle Caviness Cox and raised on a farm and attended Coleridge School.  There was no rest on the farm, when work was done, he worked at the family sawmill. One day he came home and told his daddy that he was going to town and get a job.  He went to Bossong Hosiery at 2 o'clock and went to work at 3 o'clock where he worked there for twelve years. Then he was a partner in Northside Amaco service station and then went back to farming and raising cattle and retired as a cattle farmer.  Laven was an avid quail hunter and loved NASCAR racing.   He was preceded in death by his parents, Vertis and Virtle Caviness Cox, first wife, Ellen Eugenia Parks Cox, brother, Recil Cox, sister, Berta Mae Spencer.

Survivors: wife, Doris Floyd Cox, of the home, daughter, Judith Turner Yamamoto, and husband, Shinji, of Cincinnati, Ohio, sisters, Charlene Maness, of Bear Creek, Mildred Hoover, and husband, Ed, of Franklinville, Emma Jean Marley, of Asheboro, brother, Cleo Cox, of Seagrove, grandchildren, Joseph Bell, of New York, step-grandchildren, William Snow, Jennifer Snow, and Brian, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would to thank Larry and Jane Allen, Ray and Vivian Parks for their help and loyal friendship.  Also thanks to our faithful neighbors and friends, Wade and Carol Robbins, Roby and Cathy Robbins, Tyler and Morgan Robbins and our loyal and faithful friends, Alvin and Gladys Kinney and Rodger and Glenda Little.

Visitation, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, Loflin Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ramseur and other times at the residence.
