Arthur Edward "Ed" Kirkman Obituary

Arthur Edward "Ed" Kirkman, 88, of Franklinville, died Saturday, July 28, 2018 at his residence.

Funeral Services, 11 AM, Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Franklinville.

Officiating, Rev. Steven Cox.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Ed was a native of Randolph County, a member of First Baptist Church of Franklinville, and a veteran of the United States Navy and the United States Army. He was the owner/operator of Kirkman Concrete. Ed presented a tough exterior, but we all know how much he loved his family and friends.  He enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee each morning and spending time with family in the evenings. One of his only regrets was not finishing his education, so he encouraged his grandchildren and praised all of their efforts.  Anyone who knew Ed also knew he valued hard work.  He was a successful self-made man who once went back to work the day after he lost part of his finger in a crane accident. Ed had unending generosity that extended to everyone around him.  From helping Franklinville school with their auctions for over forty years, to completing different handy man jobs for those in need, to impersonating Abraham Lincoln for different events, to offering a piece of advice to anyone who would listen, such as, "to have a friend, you gotta be a friend."  He touched the lives of everyone who knew him and was well-loved.  To say he will be missed, doesn't quite cover it. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Evelyn Lednum Kirkman, his wife, Inez Moon Kirkman, son, W.A. Kirkman, brothers, Earl Kirkman, and Rayford Kirkman.

Survivors: , daughter, Lorraine  Routh, and husband Tommy, of Franklinville, brothers, Walter Kirkman, and wife Pennie, of Asheboro, Odell Kirkman, and wife, Vergie, of Ramseur, grandchildren, Jonathan Kirkman, and wife, Allyson, of Randleman, Katie Decker-Fisk, and husband, Preston, of Summerville, SC, Kelli Kirkman, and fiance, Robert Caviness, of Ramseur, great-grandchild, Reagyn Brooke Kirkman, daughter-in-law, Jeanette Kirkman, step grandson, Michael Williamson, two step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, in-laws, and close friends.
