Lola Poole Murray was a native of Randolph County.  She was born March 6, 1925 at the home of her grandparents Avery and Annie Phillips on Deep River Church Road in Coleridge, North Carolina.  That began her enjoyment and her lifetime pride in her community of Coleridge.  She was a graduate of Coleridge High School.  After graduating high school she worked at Enterprise Store filling in at the Post Office when needed.  Lola worked at Bossong Hosiery Mill until starting her family.  She retired from Randolph County Schools after working with a very special group of ladies in the Coleridge School cafeteria for 16 years.

Lola married Thomas Elvin Murray on July 9, 1945.  Their love and respect for each other exemplified as they journeyed through life together for 57 years.  She was a devoted Christian wife and mother with her sweet spirit flowing even more abundantly over her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was always ready to go be with them celebrating their achievements and their participation in sporting events.  She was always their “Nana” as well as to others who called her Nana.

She was the oldest living member of Concord United Methodist Church (92 years).  She felt very blessed to be able to serve her Lord through the years in many areas of her church work including teaching in Sunday School, singing in the choir and the United Methodist Women.  She was known for her quiet ways supporting her Lord first through her actions and words always with her sweet smile.  “Miss Lola” cherished her church family, neighbors, and friends in the Coleridge Community.  She was honored by her church family as Mother of the Year and the Coleridge Lions Club as Lioness of the Year for her 52 years of dedicated commitment to Lionism and the Coleridge Community.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Carl, and Verta Phillips Poole, husband, Elvin Murray, and grandson, Christopher Thomas Ammen.

Survivors: daughters, Marcelle Murray, of Coleridge, Carolyn Ammen, and husband, Charles, of Coleridge, Phyllis Owens, and husband, Billy, of New Bern, grandchildren, Carla Ammen Threadgill, of Coleridge, Will Owens, and wife, Holly, of Cary, granddaughter-in-law, Kristen Ammen, of Coleridge, great-grandchildren, Murray Threadgill, of Coleridge, Emma Elizabeth Ammen, of Coleridge, Harrison, Emi Claire, and Collins Gracyn Owens, all of Cary.
