Clarice Craven Cox

Clarice Craven Cox, 90, of 4510 Old Coleridge Rd., Siler City, died Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at her residence.

Funeral Services, 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 19, 2016, at Concord United Methodist Church.

Officiating, Rev. Bob Dowling.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Cox was born on the Jacob Craven home place near Coleridge, to the late Artemis and Lou Ada Craven.  She graduated valedictorian of Coleridge High School, class of 1942.  She was employed at Enterprise Store Company in Coleridge as clerk and also assisted in the Coleridge Post Office after graduation.  Clarice married James Edwin Cox after he returned from serving in the US Navy during WWII.  They operated a grocery store in the Shiloh community and later in front of their home in Coleridge for several years.  After closing the store, they farmed, raising cattle and poultry.  She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church, Coleridge, where she served as membership secretary, secretary of the Official Board, communion steward, church historian, treasurer of the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class, secretary of the WSCS and was a member of the choir.  While serving as church historian she published a hard bound copy of the church history.  In 1979 she was honored as Mother of the Year by her church and received a life membership from WSCS.  Mrs. Cox was active in community affairs, serving as an adult 4-H leader for many years and also in the local PTA.  In her own household, she was an excellent seamstress, cook, and gardener.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edwin Cox, her son, Jimmie Cox, parents, Artemis and Lou Ada Cox Craven, brothers, Hoyt Craven, Troy Craven, Howard Craven, Lynden Craven, sisters, Connie Haskins, Virtle Holloway.  

Survivors: daughter, Nancy Lou Frye, and husband, Dale, of Carthage, sons, Philip Cox, and wife, Diane, of Coleridge, Dwayne Cox, of Cary, sister, Mary Craven Purvis of Asheboro, daughter-in-law, Lisa Cox, of Randleman, grandchildren, Travis Cox, and wife, Melissa, Caroline Cox, Craig Cox, Brandon Frye, and wife, Katherine, Matthew Shore, great-grandchildren, Cody Cox, Craven Cox.

The family extends a special thank you to Hospice of Randolph County for their care.

Visitation, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, Loflin Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ramseur and other times at the residence.
