Barney was a native of Moore County, a retired carpenter, former member of the First Wesleyan Church in Robbins and a present member of the Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Bennett. He was preceded in death by his wives, Ruth Maness, and Ada Hussey Maness, parents, William Arlie and Ida Siler Maness.
Survivors: daughter, Tammy Wilson, and husband, Steve, of Pinehurst, son, Wayne Maness, and wife, Marjorie, of Bennett, sister, Shirley Maness, of Carthage, Edith Pendleton, of West Hills, California, grandchildren, Matthew Maness, and wife, Christy, of Robbins, Bethany Van Boskerck, and husband, Trent, of Vass, Erin Wilson, Garrett Wilson, both of Pinehurst, Timothy Oldham, and wife, Jill, of Ramseur, Janice Gatlin, and husband, John, of Asheboro, great-grandchildren, Logan Maness, Jayce Maness, Brooklynn Van Boskerck, Sadie Van Boskerck, Peyton Van Boskerck, Marshall Oldham, Jessa Oldham, Brian Gatlin,Amy Gatlin.
