Audrey Cagle Brooks, age 100, of Asheboro passed away Monday, June 5, 2017.  

Mrs. Brooks was born on March 2, 1917, to the late Rufus Franklin and Ida Lilly Auman Cagle.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Martin Kelly Brooks; one son, Philip Kelly Brooks; daughter-in-law, Patricia Miller Brooks; two brothers, Cecil and Eugene Cagle; and one sister, Sadie Cagle Hughes.  Both sisters lived to the age of 100 years old.  

Audrey was born in Montgomery County, NC and graduated from Star High School in 1935 and married Martin on June 9, 1938.  Mrs. Brooks worked in the textile industry and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Asheboro.  

She is survived by her son, Darrell Franklin Brooks and wife, Judy Pugh Brooks of Holly Springs; four grandchildren, Amy Brooks Kempf of Raleigh, Ashley Brooks Fisher of Holly Springs, Kelly Brooks of Hillsborough, Meredith Brooks of Asheboro and special friend and companion, Mike Hill, also of Asheboro; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Zoe  Kempf and Grayson Brooks Kempf of Raleigh, and Austin James Fisher of Holly Springs, and several nieces and nephews.  

Mrs. Brooks was passionate about the outdoors and working in her garden.  Her love for cooking and preparing for holidays and family gatherings were always a chore of love.  

A graveside celebration of her life will be held at Sunset Knoll Cemetery, 1380 Church Street, Ramseur, NC on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at 11:00 am led by Lt. Col. Rick Kunkel, USMC, Ret. The family will receive relatives and friends immediately following the graveside service. Memorials may be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 401 Harrison Oaks Boulevard, Cary, NC 27513.
